There are bad games, very bad games… then there’s Cheetahmen II, a game made in 1997 for the NES so craptastic that more than a decade later it would become a Japanese originating internet phenomenon. Amazingly, this is not entirely just because the game failed in ways that would make Wisdom Tree games look fun, but because it actually had a seriously kick ass theme song. You will not forget this melody after the first time you hear it.
As anyone familiar with the Nico Nico Douga scene can tell you, Cheetahmen has now become an internet song meme with a mutation for just about every genre of music, my favorite being in the embedded at the top of this post.
Another great variation is the Healing Remix version, which proves just how versatile a good melody can go.
Any doubts about just how far this song’s popularity has spread can be easily quenched by this video of the Armin van Buren club remix of the song. You just can’t keep a good melody down, even if the game it came from was an abomination! ^_^
